Abstract

Function: Geosocial networking applications ( e.g., “hookup apps”) are widely utilized among adult males who possess intercourse with males (MSM). Little is famous about adolescent MSM’s (AMSM) use of the apps. Exploratory scientific studies are needed as AMSM’s software use poses different ethical, appropriate, and intimate health concerns. This short article examined AMSM’s app usage habits and their sexual health to its associations and behavior.

Techniques: Two hundred sexually experienced AMSM in america (M age = 16.6, 49% racial/ethnic minority) completed paid survey questions evaluating their usage of apps specific to MSM rather than certain to MSM to meet up lovers for dating and intercourse, in addition to their intimate behavior and HIV danger.

Results: Overall, 52.5% of participants (letter = 105) reported utilizing MSM-specific apps to fulfill lovers for intercourse. Of the, many individuals reported having dental (75.7%, n = 78) and anal intercourse (62.1%, n = 64) with those lovers. Of those whom reported having rectal intercourse, 78.1% (letter = 50) had intercourse with those lovers over and over again, and just 25.0% (letter = 16) constantly used condoms with those lovers. In accordance with people who utilized only non-MSM-specific apps, MSM-specific software users reported more sex lovers and condomless anal intercourse partners, greater observed danger of HIV thaifriendly, more engagement in intimate wellness services, and greater probability of HIV screening.

Conclusions: Use of MSM-specific apps wasn’t unusual among this test of AMSM. Patterns of danger behavior and HIV evaluation had been comparable to types of adult MSM app users. Further research should investigate AMSM’s app-related intimate and HIV/sexually transmitted infection prevention decision-making to steer sexual wellness training efforts for AMSM.
